Stirling Castle Exhibition Celebrates Five Years Of Reachout Outreach Education

In October 2010 the ‘Retrospect’ Exhibition in the Nether Bailey of Stirling Castle was held to celebrate 5 years of collaboration between Reachout and Historic Scotland.

Kirsten Wood, Historic Scotland education officer, said:
“The exhibition was a celebration of the close working relationship that has developed between us over the years.
We hold frequent sessions where Reachout members can use the castle as the inspiration for their own artwork, whether that’s photography, painting, poetry or story-writing.
There’s so much talent in the group and this will be a chance for the public to enjoy some of the fantastic artwork they have created.”

The Historic Scotland education unit makes Stirling Castle available for a wide range of projects and activities involving schools, community and
other educational groups. Its setting, buildings, statues and other architectural details make superb subjects for drawing, painting, photography and other visual arts. The history of the castle and the stories of those who have lived and worked there over the centuries are an excellent source of inspiration for written work.

Retrospect took place in the Nether Bailey 1st- 24th October 2010, including photography, paintings, print and other art forms and was part of Reachout & Historic Scotland’s contribution to the annual Big Draw campaign which promotes drawing and art throughout the country.

Lesley Arthur (Project Manager) from Reachout said:
“Our members include professional and amateur artists, who all practice in Clackmannanshire, and over the past five years we have worked closely with the education staff at Stirling Castle.
This is an ideal time to have a retrospective exhibition to show some of the work that has been created.
The partnership between Reachout and Stirling Castle shows how historic buildings can play an important part in the life of the local community and allow people to get real benefits from their cultural heritage.”

Make Room Launch Night

Here are some photos from before and during the Launch Event at the Make Room Exhibition in Alloa in June/July 2010.

The Make Room

Thank you very much to everyone who came along and supported us by checking out our exhibition at The Make Room in Alloa last week. Especially at the launch. The turnout was fantastic. There are pictures on the Facebook page and they should appear here soon.

Thank you, as well, to all the artists who contributed pieces for display. It wouldn’t have been much of an exhibition without you!!

Thank you to everyone who gave time to sit and manage the exhibition. I know it can’t have been easy being in there all day! And last, but not least, thanks to everyone involved in all the ‘behind-the-scenes’ work, setting up and taking down. A lot of vital effort went into it all.

Looking forward to getting the chance to do it all again!
